Turkeys

Bourbon Red Turkeys

We raise a heritage breed of turkey, called the Bourbon Red. This breed of bird was introduced in 1909 and was popular into the 1940s, before being overtaken by the commercial production of white broad breasted turkeys. They take about 6 months to grow to a good size: dressed weights of 8-10 lbs for a hen and 14-16 lbs for a tom. Check out our farm store page to hear more about the delicious flavor of these turkeys.

White Broad-Breasted Turkeys

We also raise White Broad Breasted Turkeys to have a faster growing bird and more options for the customer. If you want a 20lb+ turkey for your Thanksgiving table, you are going to want one of these! Compared to the heritage turkeys which take about 6 months to grow out, these will grow to a larger size in just 3.5-4 months! They are also much easier to care for and so it offers a more economical option to have pasture-raised turkey for the holidays.

Pasture Raised

Our turkeys live most of their life on the grass in mobile shelters, called tractors. The tractors are moved each day to a new section of ground to allow for fresh foraging of grass and bugs. The shelters provide shade and security from predators, as well as easy access to water and locally sourced grain. Our turkeys do not receive any hormones or antibiotics, just the magic combination of grain, natural forage, water, time, and love!
